A family systems approach focuses on individuals as they interact in the structure of the
family. Each family member focuses on their role in sustaining the positive and negative
patterns of interacting in the family. Each member can only change themselves and even when
only one member in the family makes change, the entire family system changes. This is the
most effective approach in helping chaotic families become peaceful, pleasant environments
for each family member regardless of the stressors that each member faces.
